Step Three- Kick-Off Orientation Day
An orientation day with interactivity between new student's, mentors, and Coordinators
After your Kick-Off Coordinators, teacher mentors, and student mentors have received training, your new Kick-Off Transition Program is ready to begin. The next step is the actual Kick-Off Orientation Day. This orientation day occurs a few days before school starts and is the backbone of the Kick-Off Program. Some activities are scripted and others are planned and designed by the Kick-Off Mentors during the mentor training workshop. This phase also includes parent activities that are planned and organized by administration or the PTA/PTO/Parent Boosters. This day is what gets the entire school ready and excited for the upcoming year, especially the incoming students.
The day consists of:
- Brief full group assembly with welcome speech by Principal and mentors
- Ice-breakers to encourage interactivity between everyone involved
- Team building activities between mentors and "their" students
- Teaching the new students about all of the opportunities at your school
- Familiarizing new students with the important start of school rules and procedures
- Incoming students finding and testing out their lockers
- Incoming students getting their schedule
- Incoming students locating each of their classrooms
- Food, music, dancing, FUN!
- Parent meeting at the beginning or end of the day
Your newly established team of Kick-Off Coordinators, Teacher Mentors and Kick-Off Mentors help with a positive "Kick-Off" to the school year for your incoming students.
