Lee Lonzo - National Program Director
After attending Elston High School in Michigan City, IN and Miami University in Ohio, Lee began his career spending 19 years in the classroom at Carmel High School (Carmel, IN). During that time he also coached tennis (winning multiple state championships), acted as class sponsor, National Honor Society sponsor, and was advisor to the student government for 15 years.
While teaching full-time, Lee went on to get a masters degree in Educational Administration from Butler University and a law degree from I.U. School of Law at Indianapolis as a part-time student. Lee became the Athletic Director at Carmel High School in 1992 and since 1997 has been the Director of Student Activities and Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction. He currently serves as the President of the Indiana High School Athletic Association Board of Directors and has been a frequent presenter at the Indiana School Safety Specialist Academy. He has done consulting and speaking around the country on topics including risk management, school safety, hazing, technology in schools, coaches' training, athletic administration and various legal issues in education.
Lee has been involved in student leadership training and high school transition orientations throughout his career in education. Lee has been the National Program Director of The Kick-Off Program since it was founded and is responsible for writing all curriculum. He chaired the committee that opened the brand new Freshman Center at Carmel High School in August of 2005. Most recently Lee has worked closely with the NCAA in developing a program that uses high school student athletes to mentor elementary school students. Lee retired in December of 2006 from an amazing career at Carmel High School to begin working on the Kick-Off Program full-time.
Francine Muth - Kick-Off Trainer
Fran is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a Masters in Education in School Counseling. She also holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Human Development from The Pennsylvania State University. Over the years, Fran has enjoyed working with young people and their families in a variety of settings. She has served as a Director of a big brother/big sister program, as a Family Advocate, and as a Mental Health Counselor. Most recently Fran worked as a School Counselor at both James River and Manchester High Schools in Chesterfield County Virginia. In June of 2008 she retired from Chesterfield County Schools to start an educational consulting business that offers both college and career counseling. Fran has been a frequent speaker on topics related to college admissions, career choices, and high school transition. Additionally, she enjoys volunteering her time with church and community projects.
Fran worked on the team that brought the Kick-Off Program to James River High School. Although she was involved in every aspect of the program, she especially enjoyed working with the student mentors and council members. Fran was also instrumental in introducing the Kick-Off Program to other schools in Virginia.
Katie Overbeck - Kick-Off Trainer
Katie began her involvement with student leadership in high school. She served as Student Body President of a school of over 2,000, was the captain of her track and cross-country teams, and was a delegate to Hoosier Girls' State. While earning teaching certificates in English and social studies at Purdue University, she served as president of her sorority, captain of the women's track team, and a member of the Iron Key leadership team that regularly met with the President of Purdue to discuss campus issues. Katie earned her Masters degree in Educational Leadership from the University of West Georgia in 2000.
Katie began her teaching career at Forest Park H.S., an urban high school of approximately 1200 students in Atlanta, Georgia. She moved back to Indiana with her husband and currently teaches English at Carmel High School where she is also a head class sponsor and student government advisor. She has also served as a member of the girls' track and cross-country coaching staffs. Katie was one of the key faculty members in instituting the current freshmen orientation program at Carmel High School and was part of the team that helped take The Kick-Off Program to schools across the country.
Amy Skeens-Benton - Kick-Off Trainer
Amy is a graduate of Purdue University with a BA in English and a minor in Communications. In 1998 she received her MS in Administration and principal's license from Butler University's EPPSP (Experiential Program Preparing School Principals). Amy trains high school students to executives on public speaking strategies, media relations, leadership, time management and dealing with stress. Her clients include Eli Lilly, Butler University, MSD of Lawrence Township, Carmel Clay Schools, Indiana Department of Education and many others. She has appeared on many local TV and radio stations as well as the Oprah Winfrey Show. As facilitator for the Indiana School Safety Academy Amy plans workshops and learning opportunities for school systems around the state. This also helps keep her abreast of recent trends in schools "that work." Recently, Amy joined Innovative Strategies, a company devoted to professional development.
Amy began her teaching career at Lawrence Central High School. There she served as the student council advisor, softball coach, volleyball coach, Tri-Hi-Y sponsor, prom sponsor and cheerleading coach. As student council advisor, Amy planned and organized the Indiana Student Council State Convention hosted at Lawrence Central where over 1500 students gathered from around the state to learn about leadership. Amy joined Carmel High School's staff in the fall of 1999 as an English teacher and head class sponsor. This year Amy is serving as a building level administrator for curriculum, instruction, and professional development and has assisted in researching and colleting data for the new Freshman Center. Amy was one of the key faculty members in instituting the current freshmen orientation program at Carmel High School and was part of the team that has taken the Kick-Off Program to schools around the country.
Jennifer Marlow - Kick-Off Trainer
Jen graduated from Butler University in 1999 with a BS in Chemistry and a minor in Mathematics. While attending Butler University, Jennifer was a 4 year starter for the women's basketball team, team MVP in 1999, 1st team All-Conference in 1998 and 1999 and Butler freshmen athlete of the year in 1996.
In addition to teaching chemistry, Jennifer has been the varsity girls' basketball coach at Carmel High School for the last three years after serving one year as varsity assistant coach. Jennifer also has served on the 10-12 grade research committee and the K-12 science curriculum review committee.
As a high school student, Jennifer earned 10 letters in basketball, volleyball, and tennis. In 1994, she was state runner-up in doubles in tennis and was named a 1995 Indiana All-Star in basketball. Jennifer was also a member of student council, vice-president of student athletic board, vice-president of FCA, and a member of French Club.
John Love - Kick-Off Trainer
John is a graduate of Ball State University with a BS in English and Speech Communications. He began his teaching career at Lewis Cass High School in Walton, Indiana. John has also taught at Muncie Central High School. He is currently a speech and English teacher at Carmel High School. He has been a speech team coach for 10 years and is a member of the National Forensics League (NFL). In addition, John serves on the Executive Council of the Indiana High School Forensics Association and as a District Committee Member of the National Forensics League. Under his direction, Carmel High School has qualified numerous students for the NFL National Speech Tournament. Since its beginning, John has served as a faculty mentor for Carmel High School's Greyhound Kickoff. He currently serves as a head class sponsor for a class of over 900 students. Additionally, John has organized various community service projects with students to benefit children's hospitals in and around the greater Indianapolis area.
